The Chepstow Place Plan can enable the community to positively shape future development in the town through linking into and adding detail to planning policies set out by Monmouthshire County Council.

That might include, for example, local detail about:

  • Innovative ideas which mitigate and bring resilience to climate change locally

  • Protecting and enhancing our natural environment and green spaces

  • Using the education land footprint to secure the best possible start in life for children and young people

  • Initiatives to promote active leisure, local eco travel routes for families and older residents

  • Helping the community and business to prosper, thrive – as well as welcome visitors

Place Plans were introduced by the Welsh Government as a way of encouraging greater community engagement in local planning decision making. They allow more local knowledge and detail to be added to the Local Development Plan by local communities.

A steering group of councillors from Chepstow Town Council are driving the process of preparing the Chepstow Place Plan.

Though managed overall by Chepstow Town Council, preparing the Place Plan really will be a collaborative exercise. Making sure that our local community and businesses are aware and involved will be central to the process of preparing our Place Plan.
Monmouthshire County Council are on board and will provide evidence, information, guidance and help.
The Town Council is supported in this work by community planning consultants Place Studio and  Planning Aid Wales.
